South Lake Union offers a unique 50-minute boxing-based fitness experience that combines kickboxing, strength training, and functional fitness. Our expert trainers guide you through every workout step by step, ensuring all fitness levels can participate safely and effectively. Unlike traditional gyms, our classes are never the same twice, keeping your body guessing and preventing weight loss plateaus. We provide all equipment including gloves and wraps, offer beginner orientations 30 minutes before your first class, and have built a supportive community where members feel like badass athletes while having fun and getting the best workout of their lives.
Is RockBox good for beginners with no kickboxing experience?
Absolutely! RockBox specializes in welcoming complete beginners to kickboxing. Our expert trainers coach you through every workout step by step, and everybody works at their own fitness level regardless of experience or physical ability. We ask that first-timers arrive 30 minutes early for a complimentary orientation where our trainers will show you how to throw the punches and kicks you’ll use in class, plus you’ll get to practice before you start. Remember, we only hit bags, not each other, so there’s no intimidation factor – just an amazing workout that will make you feel strong and confident.
What should I wear and bring to my first RockBox class?
Wear comfortable athletic clothing that allows full range of movement – athletic shorts or leggings, a fitted t-shirt or tank top, and supportive athletic shoes (cross-trainers work great). You don’t need to bring gloves since we have them available to rent or buy at the front desk for a reasonable price, or you can bring your own if you prefer. We also have slip-on gel wraps and traditional hand wraps for sale that protect your wrists and hands. Just bring a towel because you’ll torch calories and sweat, plus a water bottle to stay hydrated (we also sell bottled water and have water dispensers available).
What kind of results can I expect?
RockBox kickboxing delivers incredible results for your entire body and mind. You can burn up to 1,000 calories per 50-minute class while building lean muscle, improving cardiovascular endurance, and increasing overall strength. Our boxing-based workouts enhance muscle tone, core stability, flexibility, and coordination. Members typically see improvements in energy levels, confidence, sleep quality, and stress management within just a few weeks. Whether your goal is weight loss, building strength, improving fitness, or just feeling amazing, RockBox delivers the results you’re looking for through our unique combination of kickboxing and strength training.
Do I need to bring my own gloves and wraps?
We provide everything you need! Gloves are available to rent or buy from our front desk. We have both slip-on gel wraps and traditional hand wraps for sale that protect your wrists and hands during bag work. Both types of wraps are machine-washable and can be used again and again. While you’re welcome to bring your own gloves if you prefer, it’s completely optional – many of our regular members love the convenience of using our equipment. We also maintain and sanitize all equipment daily for your safety and hygiene.
When should I arrive for class?
For your first visit, please arrive 30 minutes early for your complimentary orientation, where our trainers will teach you proper punches and kicks and show you around the studio. Regular members should arrive 5–10 minutes before class for check-in. Our minimum age is 14 with a parent in attendance, or 16 without a parent (minors need parent/guardian signature).
